Not so sure the Glasgow’s came from Cookstown

10/20/2019

So after a week in Northern Ireland I am so sure of anything. Majority of Glasgow’s were in Cookstown but no direct evidence they were my Glasgow. Went onto other areas and also down to County Monaghan and Roscommon.

This is my conclusion of my trip, it was a successful research trip and vacation. That’s all for now

Last Day of Research - Thursday - North of Ireland Family History Society

Left about 9:15 am with a taxi ride for all 8 of us.   It took about 15 minutes to arrive.  I love this type of small research center due to the fact that they have everything all the bigger centers do not want.   I knew I would be there all day unless I got tired, which I did.   There was about a 20 minute introduction and off we went.   After looking thru the obvious books, I started to map out my other Glasgows in other areas and that took me quite a while.   I did find a Glasgow in the Presbyterian Historical Society books  but I haven't evaluated it yet.   Martin and Ann were great in helping us find things.    There was 4 rooms of books and papers of  all kinds.   They even had papers from a Genealogist who had passed on to them  her client work.   I was able to go thru some before talking to Martin about my Dna at FtDna.   He was most enlightening and joined me into the Northern Ireland Project and I got about 8 hits and he knew some of my hits.   No pictures today.   Yes, I was the last one there and Donna and I caught a cab back to PRONI where I stayed until 8 pm.    They are open late on Thursday. I looked for some Landlord's papers but most were not available because they were soooo old.   Bummer.   No break thru's tonight.   Janet and I shared a cab back to the hotel with a late night burger in the dining hall.   Tomorrow, is sightseeing at the Titanic Museum and shopping.   Yes, I will bring back something to everyone I promised.   There will be more pics tomorrow out on the streets of Belfast, Ireland.    Pray my back holds out !!!!!

3rd day of research - off to the Ulster American Folk Park and Mellon Centre for Migration

Left early for our full day. It was quite a good day for Ireland, We arrived by a van.   It took us about 1 1/2 hours.   The van however was not so comfortable.   When we arrived I noticed a scooter so I was able to use it to go around the park and save my back for research.    It was quite interesting but to me it was cold and damp, I think the sun hid itself in the trees.  The whole theme of the park is what is was like in Ireland when our ancestors left and how it was traveling over the Ocean to the new world.    In each section there was a man/women in period dress talking about the way of life in Ireland in the 16th and 17th century.    It of course was not easy to live and eek a living out of the land.   I still have not found out for certain what Robert did for a living but I am sure he was a farmer of Flax as everyone in that time was.  Sandy and I and Ann went around together and only got thru the Ireland portion and into the Boat to America.   THere was not time to see America but we knew our American History so it was okay.  Lunch was next before research at the Mellon Centre.   Hope to find something that lists Robert and Elizabeth coming over.  Lunch was Irish Beef stew and this dessert with Raspberry and Coconut.   At the Mellon Centre, the ladies gave a great introduction and helped us tremendously.    Although I did not find Robert anywhere, not a surprise, I came to the realization that maybe my Robert did not come from Cookstown and so back to drawing board to research the other John, James and William Glasgows in other parts of Ulster Northern Ireland.  Below are pictures both Sandy and I took for the day.

I found a will for my Glasgow’s. It is dated after they came to America so I am hoping they are descendants. All the names match perfectly. They were in different town lands than their ancestors, so I am now onto a new lead. If I can match DNA with their descendants, I will say woohoo !! Not bad for a 1st day 😀
Some pics of Sandy’s walk around Belfast
Tomorrow another full day. Will take more pics
